As it’s a landlocked country, you might doubt Austria’s boating prowess, says Motorboat & Yachting. You’d be wrong to. The latest model from Ohlsdorf boatbuilders Frauscher, the 747 Mirage, has arrived, and “it is every inch as visually striking as we’ve come to expect”.
The radical, supercar-style design “shows off Frauscher’s racing heritage”, and it has the performance to match – the claimed top speed is 56 knots. Buyers can choose between a Mercruiser petrol engine or a Volvo Penta diesel, with outputs ranging from 220hp-430hp.
The fit and finish is impeccable, says Risa Merl of Boat International, and the flexible centre-console layout means she’s not just a looker – she’ll be perfect for sunbathing and water sports as well. There is also plentiful storage in the bow and side compartments and you can choose from a “plethora” of exterior and interior colours.
The deck features a “compact yet rational” design, says Boatmag International, with a large sunbed astern, and a passageway that leads into the cockpit without you having to step on the cushions.
Those cushions double as a mattress for an emergency double bunk below deck. It’s hardly spacious down below, but makes for a comfy enough shelter at need. With this “gentlemen’s racer”, Frauscher have taken on and beaten their strongest competitor: themselves.
Price: from €129,920 (£95,000), excluding VAT.
