With more than four months for its celebration, the Barcelona ORC World Championship has already 70 registered boats of 120 set a maximum number.
17 countries will be on what is already seen as one of the best ORC world championships in recent years.
More than ever, and from 27th June to 4th July, Barcelona will be global with the running of the Barcelona ORC World Championship 2015 to be held under the organization of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.
With a closed number of 120 participants, more than four months for the celebration of the Barcelona ORC World Championship 2015, the entry list has already reached a staggering 70 units confirmed. An unprecedented success in recent years and that will have Barcelona as the epicentre.
In the three established divisions (ORC A, B and C) the figures speak for themselves. The largest so far (at the end of the pre-entry first period) is the ORC B with 27 boats, followed closely by the ORC C with 23 and the ORC A with 20.

Impressive is the number of countries that are cited in the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona in contention for the world title. Today 17 countries will be represented: Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States. A record number likely to increase.
IMPORTANT NAMES IN BARCELONA
Some of the biggest names have already confirmed their presence in Barcelona.
This is the case of the Italian “Enfant Terrible” – world champion in 2014 and 2012 in ORC A class – the German “Silva Neo” -third in the Worlds 2014 in ORC A-, or the Italian “Airis” – world champion in ORC A in 2013- , “Scugnizza” – winner in ORC B class in 2013- or his partner on the third step of the podium “South Kensington”.
Before them, a major Spanish squad that will try the title to stay home….
The organization of the ORC World Championship 2015, the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, presented to the media and sailors competing in the 33rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE, one of the main sporting events of 2015.
The presentation, led by Joaquín Barenys – RCNB Vice Commodore and Director of the ORC World Championship 2015, together with José Ángel Rodríguez Santos, President of the RFEV (Royal Spanish Sailing Federation)and Jose Martinez, President of the Cruisers’ Committee, offered all the participants a preview, the presentation video that during the next few months will be distributed worldwide.
During the presentation, he thanked the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, Alicante and Palma for the tremendous effort they made to coordinate the racing calendar and their different regattas.
Joaquín Barenys was grateful to all the participants – sailors, fans, officials and lovers of the sea-, who he hopes to see in Barcelona, from June 27th to July 4th 2015 for the Intercontinental appointment that is the ORC World Championship 2015 and that will have to Barcelona as protagonist.
“We are pleased to present the ORC World Championship 2015 during the Copa del Rey MAPFRE and in the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Palma. A club of which we can proudly say that we share a great relationship with”, Joaquín Barenys declared at the beginning of his presentation. “Next year will be a very important year for the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona since, to the already wide high level racing calendar we have, we alsoadd the ORC Worlds”.
“The ORC World Championship 2014 is currently being held in Germany with more than 150 boats competing. We hope to match or even exceed this number in the ORC Worlds where we are going to put all ourorganizational efforts. Although if the entries are over 160 pre-registered we will have to make a cut”, added Barenys. “To organize all this we have the full institutional support of Barcelona”.
