After the long, long days and hours upwind, leaders Cheminées Poujoulat have a reward in some faster reaching conditions, NW’ly breeze of 20kts for almost the whole night and Bernard Stamm and Jean Le Cam are back reeling in the miles,
They were averaging 17kts this morning for a spell, now pointing at the latitude of Essaouira and just to the south east of Madeira now. They have less than 600 miles to sail to Gibraltar and still expected there Sunday morning.
Neutrogena are still upwind and enjoying a couple of knots more breeze than GAES Centros Auditivos who remain about 200 miles behind. They are offshore of Cape Verde this morning with 1700 miles to sail to Gibraltar.
The Doldrums have started for One Planet, One Ocean & Pharmaton and We Are Water, seeing wind speeds down and boat speeds at 7-8kts this morning. Aleix Gelabert and Didac Costa are now quite separated from the Garcia brothers on We Are Water.
Lining up to try and get across best We Are Water have held east, and are now 115 miles away from their rivals. We Are Water appear to be benefiting right now with a speed of 13kts but it is still very even. They have about 250 miles to make to the Equator.
Close to Rio Renault Captur are still in search of the trade winds, and meantime have a fitful 10-12kts of E’ly wind making about 10kts boat speed.
Spirit of Hungary are sailing NE, 1200 miles south of Renault Captur, SE of a low pressure and making steady speeds right now.
