The 23 boat Flinders Islet Race fleet that left the start line in Sydney Harbour this morning were welcomed by some rather better sailing conditions than had been expected, with light showers giving way to sunshine and a modest 10-12 knot ESE breeze.
Rupert Henry’s JV62 Chinese Whisper (ex Jethou) led the fleet down the harbour on a starboard fetch towards South head, tacking around the headland and progressively cracking sheets as they ran parallel to the cliffs and rounded Bondi’s northern headland.
Paul Clitheroe’s TP52 Balance, helmed by Michael Green was second out of the harbour followed by Darryl Hodgkinson’s Victoire and Michael Cranitch’s Triton.
Last out of the Heads was John Blair’s Bear Necessity, not far astern of the fleet’s smallest yacht, Shane Kearns’ Quikpoint Auzzurro.
The Bow Caddy Media team of Crosbie and Dale Lorimer were on North Head to capture the start.
