Finn and Blaze Nationals at HISC – Day 2

Day 2 and the Sun had his hat on and the Finn and Blaze sailors were out enjoying the fantastic conditions in Hayling Bay for the second day of their Championships . . . Conditions were light for the first race of the day but increased slowly throughout the afternoon. Leading the Blaze event after 5 races is Jonathon Saunders, who missed the first race Saturday but came back to win the next two. In the Finn event, Ben Cornish made it a high 5 of wins to comfortably lead into the final day.

First race of the day, Race 3 for the Blaze class, winner was Ian Sanderson from Royal Lymington YC, 2nd Andrew Mcivor and 3rd Simon Beddows . . . In the first Finn race Saturday, race 3, it was Ben Cornish taking his third win, 2nd Andrew Mills and 3rd Hector Simpson . . .Finn and Blaze Nationals at HISC - Day 2

And the second race: Finn Race 4 winner was Ben Cornish, his fourth win of the event, 2nd Hector Simpson and 3rd Andrew Mills. You might notice a pattern developing, but into 4th it is Marc Allain des Beauvais of the French club, SNO Nantes . . . the Finns are doing one more race today . . .

In the Blaze event, Race 4, Jonathon Saunders returned to the fray with a win, 2nd Rob Jones and 3rd Andrew Mcivor and 4th Richard Hill, Warsash SC . . . Blaze are doing one more race today.

Final race for Saturday and in the Finn it was Ben Cornish again to complete a high five of wins, 2nd Andrew Mills and 3rd Hector Simpson.

In the Blaze winner of race 5 was Jonathon Saunders, his third win so far this weekend, 2nd Rob Jones and 3rd Andrew Mcivor.

Overall after 5 races:

Saunders leads the Blaze Championship by two points from Rob Jones with Andrew McIvor in third. These three have dominated the races except for Race 3 when Ian Sanderson arrived late to the event and promptly won his first race.

A similar situation in the Finn Championship, where Ben Cornish is walking away with title and British Sailing team-mates, Andrew Mills and Hector Simpson have shared the other podium places. Marc Allain des Beauvaisof France has challenged the youngsters and leads the Grand Master section.
