J/111 World Championship

J/111 World Championship – UK team leads on Day 1

After two windward-leeward races on the opening day of the J/111 World Championship in Newport, USA, the British team of Martin Dent’s Jelvis lead after posting a 1 – 6, giving them a four point lead over American Richard Lehmann’s Wind Czar.

Dent and his crew won the opening race in 7-14 knots from a 25 boat fleet. Second was Dave Irish, USA and third David and Maryellen Tortorello, USA. In the second race Rob Ruhlman, USA on Spaceman Spiff was the winner from Will Smith, USA and third Richard Lehmann, USA.

Defending champions Duncan McDonald and Phil Thomas, GBR are in tenth overall.

Other J/111 teams from the UK include Chris Jones and Louise Makin sailing a chartered boat- WILD CHILD and Tony Mack’s notoriously fast crew aboard Team McFLY from Royal Southern YC. Martin Dent is from Queen Mary Sailing Club.J/111 World Championship
