M32 Series Scandinavia

The M32 Series Scandinavia is coming to Gothenburg this weekend. With ten World class teams on a tight race course, fans on the shore in the Race Village at Lindholmen can look forward to three days of exciting racing in the heart of the city.

The M32 Series Scandinavia will be making a third visit to Gothenburg since the start of the series. The aim is to create a professional sailing series on a regional level and for the past years this has included events in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The fan base of the series is growing and the arena style racing attracts a growing number of spectators. The 2016 season of the M32 Series Scandinavia kicked off in Copenhagen in May and now it’s time for the Swedish sailors to shine on their home turf. They will be racing the M32’s with speeds up to 30 knots on the river of Göta Älv in the heart of Gothenburg.

“This is one of the events that we look forward to the most this season. Finally, the M32 Series Scandinavia is coming back to Gothenburg and for our team it means a lot to race in front of our Swedish fans and our family, friends and sponsors. We remember some exciting racing and a lot of wind at the event last year and we are looking forward to a lot of action this weekend as well”, says 26-year old skipper of Essiq Racing Team, Nicklas Dackhammar from Gothenburg.

The opening event this year was won by Taylor Canfield and his team Us One and of course they will be back on the starting line in Gothenburg. Both Canfield and the British skipper Ian Williams have their minds set on grabbing the grand prize at the finals of the World Match Racing Tour in Marstrand in July and this weekend we will get a taste of what we can expect in Match Cup Sweden, July 4th-9th.

“It’s exciting to be back in Gothenburg for the M32 Series. We are expecting some great racing on an extremely tight race course. With three additional boats this year, the racing will be even more exciting and less room to get around the track cleanly”, says Taylor Canfield.

“Team GAC Pindar is looking forward to some great racing in Gothenburg. With 10 teams on a very tight race course there will be a lot of action, but we hope to stay out of trouble and continue our improvement towards the main goal this year – the World Match Racing Tour finals in Marstrand in three weeks time”, says Ian Williams, skipper of Team GAC Pindar.

Nicklas Dackhammar will be companied by five other Swedish skippers in the line-up; Johnie Berntsson, Hans Wallén, Måns Holmberg, Mattias Rahm and Anna Östling. Team Anna will be the only all female team at this event. Other strong contenders are Nicolai Sehested, Trefor Racing and the French multihull experts in Spindrift skippered by Yann Guichard.

The M32 Series Scandinavia will continue with two more events in Scandinavia this summer and the series will be decided at the grande finale in Stockholm in September.
