Trainees are coached by Volvo and America’s Cup sailor and author, Dawn Riley, Oakcliff staff members as well top-tier international sailors and coaches specially chosen to lead them through both basic and technical projects including match racing clinics, offshore races, inshore IRC racing and land-based learning modules. Students will also have the opportunity to compete against sailors from around the world who come to Oakcliff to compete in our many match racing regattas. Additionally, rock-star sailors such as Dave Perry and Sally Barkow and industry experts like Kimo Worthington from North and Forrest Williams from Marlow are frequent visitors throughout the summer. This 28 day traveling program based out of Oyster Bay, New York will give sailors a chance to break the mold of the normal 420 racing circuit or the weekly yacht club race night for something totally different. Students will prepare for offshore and overnight sailing by completing a Safety At Sea course and sail training before setting off to do industry tours in Newport, RI and then race in the Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race. This classic race between the Boston area of Massachusetts and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada will offer sailors the opportunity to race the 365nm course against some of the hottest race programs on the east coast. So, grab your passport and plug into this program for an intensive look at the extreme world of offshore sailing.
