It’s official: the 12th edition of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe will set sail on 6 November 2022from Saint Malo in France, bound for Pointe-à-Pitre in the Caribbean.

This is the date when the competitors will be released into the open ocean after a dozen days of festivities within the village, during which time visitors will be able to get to the very heart of the event. In the previous edition in 2018, over 2 million visitors flocked to the city, with some 250,000 sailing fanatics thronging around the basins on the eve of the start.

The 12th edition of the race is set to be a big hit for both the public and for sport, with the city of Saint Malo already decked out in the colours of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe following the inauguration of the ‘50 stories from the Route du Rhum’ exhibition at the Gare Maritime de la Bourse harbour station earlier this month.

What a pleasure it is to announce to you today the start date for the next edition of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe. With sailors, spectators, partners, and we the organisers all together as one, we can cast our minds forward to this date and spend the coming months readying ourselves for this Rhum experience,” said Joseph Bizard, Managing Director of OC Sport Pen Duick.

Alongside its committed partners, notably the Guadeloupe Region, the City of Saint Malo, the Brittany Region and the CIC group, the Race Organisation, which has already spent many months preparing for this edition, is issuing an invitation to all offshore racing fans for 6 November 2022.

Notice of Race published, registration open!

Created by OC Sport Pen Duick in consultation with the Fédération Française de Voile (French Sailing Federation), the Notice of Race defines the framework and sets out the key rules for the next edition of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe. All the key competitive rules, including the number of boats, distribution per class, selection criteria, rules of entry and the provisional programme, are now accessible to all those teams wishing to compete in this 12th edition.

A key element in 2022 will be the 120-boat limit, split into the following classes:

Monohulls:

  • Class40: 55 boats
  • Class IMOCA: 25 boats
  • Rhum Mono: 12 boats

Multihulls:

  • OceanFifty: 8 boats
  • Class Ultim 32/23: 8 boats
  • Rhum Multi: 12 boats

Registration requests are now possible for every project wishing to be a part of the ‘Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe 2022’ adventure.

Publication of the Notice of Race is a high point for us organisers, as well as for the skippers and all their teams and partners. It gives everyone the opportunity to cast their mind forward to the upcoming edition of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe, which is a rather special moment in their programme. Together with the whole of the OC Sport Pen Duick team, we’re delighted to be in a position to project ourselves forward to this next edition whose sporting outline is presented here today,” stated Francis Le Goff, Race Director.
