Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron now hiring for two new Sailing roles

One of the world’s leading yacht clubs, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is adopting a new structure within its Sailing department and as such two new roles have been created and a recruitment process begun.

The club, which has won two America’s Cups and indeed all the major world yacht races, has created two new roles – Sailing Director and Sailing Co-ordinator. The latter role is mostly an off the water one gearing around sailing sailing administration and organisation.

In addition to running a full racing program of inshore and offshore races, the RNZYS runs the Lion Foundation Youth Program, regarded as the preeminent youth and sailing program in the world, which takes young sailors and over a two or three year program has produced to America’s Cup sailors, Volvo Ocean Race crews and World Match Racing Champions.

The RNZYS programs are well established, well supported by the marine industry and community, and attract the top sailing talent.

Sailing Director

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is one of the most successful Yacht Clubs in the world and
continues to strive to be in this position. A new position has been created to assist in the improvement and
expansion of its on water offer. Reporting to the General Manager and with four direct reports this role is
critical to the core operations of the club.

As the Sailing Director of this club duties will include:

 Formulate and recommend operational initiatives for all on-water operations
 Diversify on water offer
 Manage all on water volunteer groups
 All Racing
 All Cruising – sail and motor
 Manage development of Training Academy concept and exisiting Youth Training Program
 Any future on water special interest areas
 Boat Maintenance and compliance
 Boat Drivers
 Race Management

You will be expected to deliver these on water activities in a professional manner on time and on budget.

If you are or have:
 A dynamic, proactive, creative team player
 Have a high level of management experience
 Able to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders effectively
 A good level of understanding of race management including sailing instructions, notice of race
and race compliance
 A comprehensive understanding of club dynamics with volunteers, staff and members
 Have an understanding of boat management (yachts and power boats) including asset
management, maintenance management, fleet structure
 A suitable tertiary qualification and or international or local experience in a similar role
