Vendée Globe 2016 – After an emotional and successful 2015 season, during which he finished third in the Solitaire du Figaro, second in the Fastnet Race and third in the Transat Jacques Vabre, Yann Eliès intends to get some rest during this festive season, while his Quéguiner – Leucémie Espoir monohull enters a long winter refit to prepare her.
Taken out of the water after a rough delivery trip back from Guadeloupe, Yann Eliès’s monohull will be fine-tuned this winter, as Ronan Deshayes, the project’s technical director, explains, “Without any major changes planned, the work we have scheduled is nevertheless important. We shall be repainting the keel and trying to understand the reasons why the paint peeled off in the Transat Jacques Vabre. We’ll also be changing the rudder set-up and making changes to some of the internal and external fittings on the boat to make things more comfortable for Yann.”
After entering the yard fairly early on, Yann’s monohull is now scheduled to be relaunched in early April. He will then compete in The Transat between Plymouth and New York in May 2016.
