After a year of regatta cancellations and postponements, the Crown Series promises to be a well-attended and fun-filled event. The series draws entries from across the state with competitors battling it out in multiple divisions including racing keelboats, performance cruiser / racers (spinnaker and non-spinnaker) and one-design sailing.
Younger sailors are involved through the off-the-beach (OTB) program and the keelboat racing program also includes the Tasmanian AMS Rating Championship for AMS certified entries. There will also be an extensive program of post-sailing entertainment in the BYC grounds.
“The Crown Series is the pinnacle of keelboat racing in Tasmania and is open to keelboats (vintage and multihull), sportsboats and the exciting SB20 One Design Class, among others. The off-the-beach classes include Sabots, Optimists, NS14s and the Waszp which is the newest class on the River Derwent. After the year we have had, our Club is excited to be bringing the sailing community back together for our 17th regatta,” said BYC Commodore, Graham Mansfield.
Mansfield expects a combined keelboat and OTB fleet of over 150 entries from across the state will join the regatta which runs from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th February 2021.
Banjo’s returns as the major sponsor of the regatta, maintaining their long-term commitment to the event, while a range of local business also support the series. Skippers are encouraged to enter before 1 February 2021 to qualify for the early bird draw for an entry fee refund of up to $200, while Nautilus Marine Insurance offers a $750 insurance voucher for a keelboat skipper and a $250 voucher for an OTB skipper, with both prizes drawn at the prize-giving on Sunday afternoon.
