The Category 3+ event has been specifically designed to encourage sailors, families, and supporters to experience Bundaberg and the Southern Great Barrier Reef at one of the region’s most spectacular times of year, combining competitive offshore racing with an accessible family holiday experience.
Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn will officially start the race alongside Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD and is enthusiastic about showcasing the region to the sailing community.
“We’re absolutely delighted to see the inaugural Brisbane to Bundaberg Yacht Race set sail,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“This exciting new event showcases not only the spirit of adventure on our coastline, but also highlights Bundaberg as a welcoming and vibrant destination.”
Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron has focused on delivering not only a scenic Queensland coastal race, but also an enjoyable onshore experience for competitors, friends, and family.
“Winter holidays are often a time when Queenslanders are looking for something different but still heading North to warmer waters,” said RQYS Commodore Curtis Skinner.
“We have made the experience accessible to all, beginning with a return coach transfer service for non-sailors and family-friendly festivities at the finish line at Bundaberg Port Marina on Saturday.”
A public BBQ buffet dinner and presentation evening will commence at 5:30 pm on Saturday, 20 June, at Bundaberg Port Marina, with the community invited to follow the race online and watch the fleet arrive throughout the day via the Burnett River.
The race can be tracked live via the official event website. Many thanks to our supporters, particularly Bundaberg Port Marina and Pacific Tug for making this inaugural event possible.
