Three more years for PIC and the Coastal Classic

The New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club is thrilled to confirm that PIC Insurance Brokers have extended their support for the club’s flagship event, the PIC Coastal Classic. Due to be sailed for its 39th time from Auckland to Russell in October 2021, the event can again go ahead with the certainty that is needed after what has been a year difficult to navigate for many sporting events.

“We are still operating through challenging times due to the impact of COVID-19, which makes this commitment from PIC one to celebrate more than ever” says NZMYC Commodore Greer Houston. “We know they’re with us through thick and thin”.

The new agreement extends PIC’s naming-rights for three more years, which by the end will see their investment into the iconic yacht race span 12 years.

“We don’t tend do anything for the short-term” says PIC’s Head of Marine Insurance, Daniel Garner. “The PIC Coastal Classic is the biggest and arguably most anticipated sailing race in NZ, and we want to see it remain viable for the long-term. We’re not going anywhere.”

As a 100% NZ owned and operated business, PIC Insurance Brokers is proud to be partnering with local businesses, supporting local communities and investing only in New Zealand.

“PIC’s continued investment in the race is extremely appreciated by the NZ Multihull Yacht Club” says Greer. “With PIC’s support, we’ll be able to make some improvements to keep the Great Race North relevant and enjoyed by today’s sailors from clubs all around New Zealand.”

The 2021 edition of the race will continue with some of the “luxuries” of recent years with top-notch live bands and live streaming videography, with additional new features to be announced over the coming weeks.

The PIC Coastal Classic, held annually over Labour weekend, marks the start of the summer sailing season. This year, the event will start on 22nd October 2021 from the vicinity of Auckland’s Devonport Wharf and continue to Russell Wharf in the Bay of Islands.

For those interested to participate, online entries will open soon. For more information visit www.coastalclassic.co.nz or @piccoastalclassic
