Melges 24 European Sailing Series

In light of the continuously evolving situation related to the Coronavirus pandemic, there are news coming from International Melges 24 Class Association (IM24CA) related to the rescheduling of some events of the 2021 European calendar.

Given the high number of participants coming from several European countries and the travel restrictions that still could affect the movement of international crews traveling through different European and Italian locations, International Melges 24 Class Association has opted to postpone the seasonal kick off to June: first event of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series will hence be disputed on Garda lake in Malcesine from June 25th to 27th.

The following events will take place in Riva del Garda, from July 23rd to 25th and from August 20th to 22nd. The fleet will then move to Slovenia, in Portoroz, where the European Championship will take place from September 4th to 11th. Fifth event of the European Sailing Series will take place in Austria, on Attersee from September 24th to 26th, and the curtain will close on the 2021 season with the event of Trieste in Italy from October 1st to 3rd.

Miles Quinton, Vice Chairman Europe of IM24CA, commented: “We are looking forward to resume sailing in for the 2021 season and we are delighted that events are already taking place in Italy and Croatia. However, the pandemic restrictions in many countries mean that holding multi-country events such as the European Sailing Series in the next two months will be difficult, so we have taken the decision with the Italian and Austrian National Melges 24 Classes hosting the first two events of the European Sailing Series in April and May to move them to August and September respectively. We plan to still have six events in the schedule of the series from June to October with revised dates. Looking forward to seeing all of you in the near future on the race course!”.

Some racing has already started with a regatta in Croatia and regattas in Italy will begin tomorrow, with the Act 1 of the Italian Melges24 Tour in Talamone that was supposed to be the original kick off of the 2021 European Sailing Series, now postponed to August in Riva del Garda. Over 15 boats are expected on the starting line and racing will last until Sunday. More information about the regatta in Talamone.

2021 Melges 24 European Sailing Series will consist of six events:

  • June 25-27 – Malcesine, Garda lake, ITA
  • July 23-25 – Riva del Garda, ITA
  • August 20-22 – Riva del Garda, ITA
  • September 4-11 – Portoroz, SLO – Melges 24 Europeans 2021
