Melges 32 World League in Villasimius

The Melges 32 World League 2020 season gets under way and the location chosen for the official restart is Villasimius, in Sardinia, thanks to the organization of Marina di Villasimius and the Lega Navale of Villasimius who have agreed to welcome the Melges fleet in the “hottest” days of their summer season.

The competitive Melges 32 fleet will start racing starting tomorrow, Saturday 22 August, for the first act of the Melges World League and, after just one day off, for the 2020 World Championship, scheduled from 26 to 29 August.

The fleet, which after the long winter break has already gone back into the water at the beginning of July in Fraglia Vela Malcesine, will find important crews on the race course of Villasimius, which over time have emerged in the competitions of this well-known monotype. There will be the reigning World Champions aboard La Pericolosa, who in Villasimius will have the task of defending the title won at the end of an intense series of regattas in Valencia 2019, and the winners of the Melges World League 2019 onboard Caipirinha by Martin Reintjes, already winners of the July warm up in Malcesine.

Also Luigi Giannattasio with his Donino, which in Villasimius in 2019 had achieved the first success of the season, and the German Wilma of Fritz Homann, for years at the center of the Melges 32 competitions, will be returning. Edoardo and Vanni Pavesio, who had been missing for a couple of years on the stage of the Melges 32, will be back on their Fra Martina.

The new entries Farfallina and Heat, bearers of the Hungarian and German flags respectively, confirm their attendance at the first official act of the Melges World League.
