Rolex Capri Sailing Week

Another coastal race of approximately 30 miles was set for the third race of the Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy, on a regatta course once again blessed with ideal sailing conditions.

The westerly breeze blowing at 14 to 16 knots on the starting line allowed the fastest boat to complete the course in just over two hours and 30 minutes.

After today’s start off Capri, the maxi yachts rounded an offset mark before turning for the second mark off Punta Campanella, on the mainland, and proceeding to round the island clockwise before passing Punta Campanella for a second time and heading for the finish line off Capri’s Marina Grande. The racers were particularly appreciative of the excellent course management under the watchful eye of the President of the Race Committee, Alfredo Ricci.

The star of the day was once again the Mylius 18E35 Frà Diavolo, owned by Vincenzo Adessi, who add precious points to their lead in the general classification with today’s victory. Second place went to Luca Scoppa’s Blue Oyster, under the guidance of tactician Roberto Ferrarese, while the French Swan 601, Lorina 1895, claimed third place.

After three days of racing, and with the first act of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week drawing to its conclusion tomorrow, the provisional overall classification in the two classes is as follows:

Performance:
Frà Diavolo – Vincenzo Adessi – Yacht Club Gaeta
Lorina 1895 – Jean Pierre Barjon – Yacht Club de France
Cippa Lippa X – Guido Paolo Gamucci – Yacht Club Punta Ala

Classic:
Blue Oyster – Luca Scoppa – Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia
Shirlaf – Giuseppe Puttini – C.N. Marina di Alimuri
Stella Maris – Matteo Fossati – Viverelavela

A lighter breeze is forecast for tomorrow, and in all probability the maxis will compete on a windward-leeward course for the final day of racing in the Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy. Tomorrow afternoon the prize-giving ceremony for this first act dedicated to the maxi yachts will take place in Capri. Meanwhile in Naples, on the docks of the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, registrations and measurements are continuing for the ORC European Championship fleet.

Live racing and playback can be followed online thanks to the TracTrac tracking system.

All information on the race, official announcements and results are available on the official website.
