Significant events demand significant trophies. The Nations Trophy, launched by Nautor’s Swan and taking place for the first time this year between 10 and 14 October in Palma de Mallorca, hosted by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, is such an event.
Accordingly, the high-end jeweller and silversmith Buccellati has agreed to create the prestigious Nations Trophy itself along with the prizes to be awarded to the individual winners of the three competing classes – ClubSwan50, Swan 45 and ClubSwan 42. In taking on this major task, a bridge will be formed between two notable brands.
The challenge cup to be awarded to the winners of The Nations Trophy is a unique and original piece. It focuses on a solid silver motif formed by three swans, inspired by the classic Nautor’s Swan icon, and which enclose a lapis lazuli sphere depicting the world.
The swans lie on a base made of silver and lapis lazuli and support a cup which opens like a chalice, suggesting movement reminiscent of waves. This effect has been obtained using a skilled repoussé technique.
The repoussé work on the cup, the detail in the swans’ feathers and the corrugations on the base demonstrate typical Buccellati handmade manufacturing skills and techniques.
Leonardo Ferragamo, Group Executive Chairman of Nautor’s Swan, announced: “I am happy to celebrate The Nations Trophy with a cup that has been created by the exquisitely competent hands of Buccellati’s silversmiths.’
Andrea Buccellati, President of the Buccellati Group, claimed to be: “flattered by Leonardo Ferragamo’s invitation to design and realize the Nation’s Trophy cup, celebrating the craftsmanship and savoir faire of two great companies.”
