The RNZYS is pleased to confirm they now have ten confirmed entries for the regatta, including some beautiful superyachts that are going to make for a truly spectacular event on the Hauraki Gulf.
With Europe closing down again, the Pacific is seen as a safe destination for superyachts and more of them are looking to head down in this direction. The Mastercard Superyacht Regatta, as well as the Prada Cup and America’s Cup on during the same period, this is seen as a prime time for Superyachts to be in New Zealand.
There have been recent rumors that the event was on hold, but that is certainly not the case, as RNZYS CEO Hayden Porter explains –
“Contrary to recent reports, the Mastercard Superyacht Regatta is still going ahead as planned. It is one of the jewels in the crown of our RNZYS 150th celebrations, and although it has been made more challenging by the current climate, we are really confident about this event being a great success. In fact, we have just received three new entries in the past week, and some fresh expressions of interest so things are looking very positive. We have also secured VMG Clothing as a new sponsor and official clothing and merchandise supplier”
Not only have the RNZYS received recent new entries, but there are currently around twelve superyachts in the Pacific all working towards being here for the event and working through the immigration process. Although it is more difficult than usual, there is a border process which is working and can assist with getting these vessels into our country, and more importantly, for this milestone regatta.
Ruth Riviere, Country Manager, New Zealand & Pacific Islands, Mastercard, said –
“We are very proud to be supporting the Mastercard Superyacht Regatta and to be so heavily involved in the RNZYS’s iconic 150th celebrations. The event looks like it is going to be a fantastic spectacle, and it’s great to be part of what is shaping up to be an incredible summer on the water”
The RNZYS are happy to announce that VMG Clothing have come on board as the Official Clothing Partner of the Mastercard Superyacht Regatta.
Owen Rutter, VMG Clothing Director, said –
“VMG Clothing (Formally Events Clothing Company) is proud to be the Official Clothing Partner of the Mastercard Super Yacht Regatta. Suppling crew clothing to Super Yachts and Regatta’s around the world is in our DNA. We are thrilled to show case some of our latest designs in conjunction with this regatta.”
The RNZYS also recently announced a Motor Yacht division on one day for the Mastercard Superyacht Regatta, which is sure to be popular for motor powered superyacht owners. Plans are currently under way for this division, and the RNZYS is motivated on delivering something special for this group of boats that hasn’t been seen anywhere in the world before.
As mentioned, the event will take place within New Zealand’s best kept secret, the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. The park covers an area of more than 1.2 million hectares, and there are more than 50 islands within the park, many of which are public conservation lands managed by the Department of Conservation. Most islands are open to the public, but some are sanctuaries for endangered species. Five marine reserves are also included within the park. More information about the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park can be found here.
The Mastercard Superyacht Regatta will take place between 23rd – 27th February 2021, beginning with a huge welcome function on the 23rd February at the RNZYS and followed by four days of heart-stopping racing on the beautiful waters of the Hauraki Gulf among its many surrounding islands. This is going to be a spectacular sight for yachting enthusiasts and the general public to witness, and will also be an amazing event for the superyacht owners and crew from around the globe to be involved in.
The RNZYS is encouraging further entries, and looks forward to hosting this regatta at the Home of America’s Cup, for what is set to be an unmissable event in 2021.
