The Ocean Race

German sailor Boris Herrmann has plans to be on the start line of the 2021-22 edition of The Ocean Race.
The IMOCA 60 sailor is putting together a campaign for the single-handed Vendée Globe, beginning in 2020, and plans to follow that up by taking on the fully-crewed challenge of The Ocean Race less than year later.
“It’s a great opportunity for us with our IMOCAs to come and join The Ocean Race. It’s very inspiring and I’m looking forward to developing this project,” he said during a recent visit to Race Headquarters in Alicante.
Herrmann began his offshore career in 2001 in the Mini Transat and is fresh off a fifth place finish in the Route du Rhum in his IMOCA 60 Malizia II – Yacht Club de Monaco.
“This would be two intense years to prepare for the Vendée Globe and all of that will contribute as preparation for The Ocean Race as well…
“My vision for this would be to get a foot in the door with a development campaign for young German sailors and then develop into building a new boat for a high-performance campaign next time.”
